Thor

This week I am going to be writing about Thor. Thor is the son of Odin and Gaea born in Asgard. He is the God of Thunder and can control thunder and lightning with his hammer, Mjolnir. He later becomes proud of himself for defending Asgard from it’s enemies and his father banishes him to Midgard(Earth). On Midgard, Thor was made mortal and gave the form of a handicapped doctor named Donald Blake. Donald Blake was caught in the middle of an alien attack and found a walking stick, that if struck against any surface transformed him into Thor.
Thor has many powers and abilities. Thor is the most powerful being on Earth and the most powerful hero in the Marvel Universe. Thor is physically the strongest of Norse Gods and can lift well over 100 tons. He also restrains from using all his strength so he does not kill his opponent or destroy the place in which they are. He has only shown full force against The Hulk, Hercules, Sentry and Gladiator.
His god-like physiology gives him higher endurances than humans and super humans. Thor is immune to all human diseases, poisons and toxins. He is also immune to electrocution and radiation poisoning. His metabolism is so high, it is impossible for him to become drunk. Thor is also able to heal much faster than humans and his hammer, Mjolnir, gives him the ability to regenerate limbs. Although Thor has many powers and abilities, he also has some weaknesses. He has become a victim to higher forms of magic used against him. His life is now tied to his hammer.
Thor has appeared in many movies and TV shows, as well as some comics. Some movies he has appeared in include: The Avengers, Thor: Tales of Asgard, Thor, Planet Hulk, Hulk vs. Thor, Next Avengers Heroes of Tomorrow, Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2, Fast Times at Hero High, and The Incredible Hulk Returns. Some TV shows include: The Marvel Superheroes segment: The Mighty Thor, Spider-Man, X-Men The Animated Series, Fantastic Four animated Series, The Incredible Hulk, and The Super-Hero Squad Show.
I actually have not read or watched anything about Thor. I was told that the movie that just came out in 2011 was really boring, so I haven't gone to watch it yet. Maybe after reading and learning more about him I will go see it.
Thor is also featured in a few video games. These video games include: Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Superheoes, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Marvel Super-Hero Squad Show, The Infinity Gauntlet, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, and Thor: God of Thunder.

Captain America

Hello, my name is Shannon. I am going to be writing about Captain America today. Captain America is a man named Steven Rogers. Steve was denied acceptance into the military because he did not pass physical requirements, but he was volunteered for Operation: Rebirth. This was supposed to help soldiers meet the physical requirements. Steve was the first to be tested for the “Super Soldier Serum”, and Professor Erskine, the creator, was assassinated shortly after, leaving Steve as the only person with the Super Soldier Serum.
Steve was assigned to serve in the army. He wore a costume that was identical to the US flag. He was also given a triangular shield used to protect him. He named himself Captain America as a symbolic US hero. While on the mission to the African nation of Wakanda, he befriended the nation’s ruler and obtained a sample of a metal, vibranium, he used this metal to make a disc shaped shield, that was indestructible.
Captain America had a number of aliases including: The Captain, Steven Grant Rogers, Cap, The Star-Spangled Avenger. Before he tried to enlist in the army, Steve was a WPA artist. He was later a soldier, teacher, and a police officer. Steve was a high school graduate, who also attended one year of art school. He then went to basic training and had one-on-one tutoring in combat.
Captain America did not have any super powers, but the Super Soldier Serum he metabolized gave him high levels of intelligence, agility, strength, speed, endurance and reaction time. It also gave him the ability to eliminate the fatigue-producing poisons in his muscles.
The story of Captain America was made into a movie. It was written by Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, Joe Simon, and Jack Kirby. Markus and McFeely wrote the screenplay, whereas Simon and Kirby wrote the comic books. The movie was directed by Joe Johnston. I have not yet seen the movie, but I think I would like it.
